Yamaha Genos So $#@^& frustrating! I met with a Yamaha rep yesterday and he gave me about a 1 hour tutorial on my new Genos. At the end of the lesson, he emailed me a link to a number of styles for my instrument. I have the latest firmware (v 1.3) on my Genos.
My wife helped me with the install of Yamaha Expansion Manager and the next step was: 1. Export the file ID from the instrument to USB 2. Next, plug said USB into windows v10 computer 3. Next, import file ID info from USB into Yamaha Expansion Manager.

THIS FAILED!! Therefore I could NOT continue! NOTE: I repeated steps 1 to 3 FOUR times, including using a NEW USB stick for 2 of the repetitions. CAN ANYONE HELP??? Are we perhaps seeing the 'leftovers' from tortuous copy-protection regimes - designed to prevent you from gleaning ANY benefit from the 'item' other than: What has been promised in the description. What has been PAID FOR.
NO winkling-out of features to use in a different model - or - (Heaven forbid) in a competitor's Product? We've all been subject to various schemes requiring the jumping through 'hoops' to actually USE what we have paid for.

I totally get copyright and certainly that can cause issues with software but in this case, as far as I know it would not be out of the realms of possibility to produce styles etc that would only be recognised and opened on the keyboard or range of keyboard they were intended for.
I.e download the styles to a usb stick, insert into the keyboard and it instantly recognises the content and asks if you want to install. You could then tick a check box for the particular styles, sounds etc you want to install and away you go! I'm not saying that is an easy thing to implement but if it is not I would love to know why not.
What is so complex and difficult about going down that route? I admit I am not a programmer so there may be myriad reasons why this can't be done but knowing those reasons would certainly help. Sun Apr 29, 2018 1:35 pm Well, I started trolling around and found a very good tutorial on the Genos Expansion Manager. It confirmed to that the steps I took were accurate. Replies were allowed so I described the problem. One user told me I would get the error message if the Expansion Manager is outdated!! How in God's name would I know that??
I downloaded it from Yamaha. DOES ANYONE HAVE A GENOS TECH SUPPORT PHONE NUMBER FOR USA?? There doesn't seem to be any joined up thinking going on with all this. Shouldn't Expansion Manager check to see if it is the latest version available and if not offer to download and install the latest version? I have asked Yamaha if they have a Genos support number for the USA but these days they are not that quick at replying.
